Planning & Design

One of our designers will visit with you in your home to determine your family’s intended use of the pool, what ideas you may have for your pool, measure your yard, look at elevations and access, what options appeal to you, and your budget. After gathering this information, your Designer will create a conceptualization of the pool that will include: the size, location, and shape of the pool; special features, such as waterfalls, tanning ledges, fountains, and benches, to name a few; and the location of the pool equipment. Once you have worked together to finalize the plan and discussed landscaping needs, you are ready for…

Blue Haven Pool and Spa Combination

Permits and the Construction Plan

Your Designer will create a construction plan, identifying utilities, elevations, and any other factors unique to your property. Blue Haven submits the plan to the appropriate local agencies to obtain necessary permits.

Layout

Before any work begins, one of our construction experts will schedule an appointment with you to “layout” the pool, literally painting the outline of the pool in your backyard. You will approve, in writing, the location, size, shape, and elevation of your pool. This is the time when any adjustments to size, location, or elevation can be made before work actually begins. Any changes will be made in writing, for your signature.

Excavation

Now the exciting part of the process begins. Heavy machinery will remove the dirt, exposing the size and shape of the pool. Our measurements are very precise and require precision work, so our crew will hand contour the walls and floor of the pool according to the construction plan. All dirt is removed from the pool site, unless you request otherwise.

Steel

We offer a limited lifetime structural warranty, so structural support is vital…the foundation of your pool. The entire pool is fortified with steel bars that are placed at intervals that maximize structural integrity.

Plumbing

During the plumbing stage, we will dig trenches around your pool. Our plumbing crews use schedule 40 pvc, which is corrosion resistant. Many other companies use flex-pipe, which is easier to install and more prone to premature failure. Also, we install our pipe outside the walls of the pool so that if there is a problem, troubleshooting is much easier. Our over-sized plumbing lines ensure that the proper hydraulics are achieved to provide efficient circulation, thus minimizing electrical and chemical costs. We then pressure test the lines to guarantee trouble-free operation.

Electric

During this phase, more trenches are dug for conduit to supply all the necessary electrical requirements. All electrical work is performed in compliance with National Electrical Code.

Gunite

Gunite, a high-strength concrete mix, is pneumatically “shot” into the steel form to create a tough, solid shell. Tanning ledges, steps, etc. are sculpted by hand to match precise measurements.

Tile & Coping

Our expert masons will install your choice of brick or stone around the top edge, or bond beam, of your pool and spa. Any special work with stone or rock, such as waterfalls or retaining walls, is usually done at this time. Your water-line tile is then installed. Our masons and tile-setters are very dedicated craftsmen who ensure that every detail meets specifications.

Decking

To achieve your individual poolscape design and ensure an attractive, durable deck that’s appropriate for your soil and our climate, we offer a full range of materials, colors, textures, and surfaces. Typically, we form your decks in one day; the actual installation can take from one to several days depending on size, materials, and finishes.

Clean-up

After decking, all of our construction debris is removed, and a general clean-up and rough grading of the area is completed.

Landscaping

Landscaping and the sprinkler system should be installed before the interior finish of the pool is applied.

Interior Finish/Plaster

This is the last phase of construction before the pool is filled with water. Before the plaster phase is scheduled, one of our representatives will meet with you to do a walk-through of the project area and discuss any questions you may have. At that time, you will be given instructions on how to properly fill your pool with water after the interior finish is applied. Also, an appointment will be scheduled for “Pool School.”

Start-Up

When your pool is full of water, and before Pool School begins, one of our technicians will start up the pool, turning on the equipment and ensuring its proper operation. During Pool School, he will show you how to operate your equipment and maintain your pool, including proper water chemistry. He will also provide a manual with further instructions and your warranties. Many people find it helpful to video tape Pool School for future reference. And, you can always call our Service Department with questions.
