So you’ve winterized your swimming pool and the backyard is quieting down. Now what? There are lots of great family activities this fall in Oklahoma. Here’s a guide to family-friendly events in and around Tulsa in November.
One of the best things to do with family and friends is to get outside to enjoy the beauty of Oklahoma. The Keystone Ancient Forest in Sand Springs is a beautiful trail system with forested areas, rock formations, and lakes. A new scenic one-mile trail is open for the fall and winter that is “more physically challenging and leaves the hiker with a much stronger sense of what this part of Oklahoma and Sand Springs used to look and feel like… .”
The first week of November, from the 4th through the 9th, the Pinto Horse Association of America presents the Color Breed Congress in Tulsa at Expo Square. Four breeds of horses will be exhibited: Pinto, Palomino, Appaloosa, and American Buckskin. This equine competition attracts the best horse handlers in the country for these breeds.
Have a comic book fan in the house? Get out to Wizard World Tulsa Comic Con November 7-9 at Cox Business Center in Tulsa. Panel discussions with celebrities from the comic book world, movies, and TV, as well as an expo featuring art, collectibles, and of course comic books. Visit the Expo home page for complete details.
How about a free event that’s educational and good for your health? The Second Saturday Walking Tour invites you to “take a fun and educational walking tour through downtown Tulsa” that gives you “an insightful look into the exciting architecture that abounds in downtown Tulsa.” The tours start at the Topeca Coffee Shop at the historic Mayo Hotel on Saturday, November 8th.
On the same day November 8th, stop in at the Eat Street Food Truck Festival in the Blue Dome Entertainment District. Partake in delicious offerings from the many food trucks of Tulsa and/or shop at the farmer’s market. More than 30 trucks will be on hand to tempt you with their delicious fare. Oklahoma is known for festive family fun during the fall season. The Tulsa Corn Maize is a popular event that takes place in Broken Arrow daily until November 8th. Hay rides, pumpkins, a corn maze, a cow train, campfires, and lots more family fun are on tap.
Enjoy free music at Tulsa’s Performing Arts Center on three select Wednesdays at midday in November. On the 5th Amy Cottingham will play the piano during her 40-minute free concert. Hear the BBCM Quartet on November 12th and Bravo Brass quintet on November 19th. Visit the Tulsa Performing Arts Center website for a calendar of events for November.
Starting on November 28th Chandler Hill will be illuminated for Holiday Lights on the Hill. Take a drive through four miles of festive bright lights and holiday decorations. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the park and get a cup of hot chocolate. Santa will even be on hand to listen to the kids requests.
